Nothing really happens during the holidays...
The first few days are filled with dinners and drinks.. and more drinks... and so much drinks that you begin to wish that you never have another drink again. And then, people start to leave, one by one - back to their home towns, back to their home countries or maybe just on a holiday.
After that, if you've decided to stay in Beijing for the winter (including the Spring Festival, the Chinese New Year) then you realize that you're suddenly here all alone. Nobody to have lunch with, nobody to have dinner with and man, you kinda wish you were out there having a drink with somebody.
So really, what can you do? Not much. For the days leading up to the New Year, you just take Chinese classes (preferably every day), go to the gym and maybe, explore Beijing a little bit. There are quite a few things to do - a must do it to try the different Chinese cuisines that China has to offer - Hunan food (Changsa Hotel), Sichuan food (Spice Garden) etc etc. It's quite interesting although you are probably likely to gain a few pounds.
You could also try looking for love, which isn't such a bad thing to do when you're bored and lonely.
What do I do? Not much, thankfully, I've got a friend visiting me so we just chill and head out. Waking up at 2pm has become the norm because sleeping at 6am has also become the norm.
Tomorrow, I find out what celebrating the Chinese New Year in Beijing is really like :)

Slow and steady... rush...
Something someone sent to me, I guess it's true, slow down and enjoy the moment...
-----
Slow Dance
Have you ever watched kids, on a merry go round?
Or listened to the rain, slapping on the ground?
Ever follow a butterfly's erratic flight?
Or gazed at the sun into the fading night?
You better slow down
Don't dance so fast
Time is short
The music won't last.
Do you go through each day, on the fly?
When you ask, "How are you", do you hear the reply?
When the day is done, do you lie in bed
With the next hundred chores, running through your head?
You better slow down
Don't dance so fast
Time is short
The music won't last.
Ever told your child, "We'll do it tomorrow"
And in your haste, not see his sorrow?
Ever lost touch, let a good friendship die
Cause you never had time, to call and say "Hi"
You better slow down
Don't dance so fast
Time is short
The music won't last.
When you run so fast to get somewhere
You miss half the fun of getting there
When you worry and hurry through your day
It's like an unopened gift.... thrown away
Life is not a race
Do take it slower
Hear the music
Before the song is over....

Welcome to tomorrow
Let's see, I did have some things that I wanted to talk about - but I met somebody and I can't remember what they are. So, keeping it brief, NYE was an uneventful affair, with a discussion that concluded with that
i) There are very few girls in both I1/I2 combined that guys would want to hit up.
ii) There are even fewer guys in both I1/I2 combined that girls would want to hit up as well.
Admittedly, the sample size was pretty small - but I guess it's true though, there aren't that many attractive (physically, mentally, emotionally) guys/girls in the class. But by and large, most people are categorized as "nice", but nice doesn't get you laid, it just means that others wouldn't mind being on your study group. :)
This year, should be an interesting year if everything goes well. Hopefully it will be.
Oh yes, I wanted to talk about the Microsoft Kinect. It's pretty incredible and will almost guarantee to impress anybody who uses it for the first time. I think it's the future of gaming, and promises of what things will happen moving forward. It looks like Microsoft isn't that bad after all (I've always liked them a lot though. Go Office!).
Happy New Year, to what few readers I have.
Snap - Welcome to Tomorrow
I like how she's armed with a crossbow.. old school classics can be pretty good.
Welcome to tomorrow, welcome into my world...
Hocus pocus turn around, ain't no magic act around...
The world of tomorrow is a game world that layers on the world that we know today.

Sometimes, I feel like this...
friend: well, honestly, it is kinda sad, but look at the bright side, we had out fair share of experience and fun
me: true, but then i kinda regreat the "fun" i've had
friend: i just hope that we get our second, third or fourth or fifth chance. I sometimes wished that I have a family, wife and kids.
me: me too, things would be so different, somebody to share life with
friend: yeah...
friend: i would, but I don't think I would give up all my habits only for the prefect one, I will quit all not-so-good habits.
me: i know exactly what you mean, I get this pain on the left of my chest, just below the heart, or just above the stomach...
-----
Sometimes, you don't know what it feels like until you look back and realize you've gambled everything away.. life, love, happiness.... just to see the flop one more time....
Maybe deep down, we all feel like that sometimes...
We just need to beat the pain, take it to the top...

Give me, Give me everything you got!
You and I can take it to the top
Like the superheroes we can save the day
Let the music take us somewhere far away
Because of you (cause of yoooou)
That's what I do (what I do)
Come on, Come on
Because of you
(I'm a true believer)

Reload
The Christmas/New Year "break" gives most of us a chance to catch our breaths. However, with ongoing classes, presentations due and even an exam on 30th December, I've been catching my breath at the expense of my studies.
I've come to realize that
1. MBA students love to gossip - at any opportunity, they will gossip about anything. From who your father is, to who you're dating. But that should be a given, since the community is really very small. 120 students - two classes of 60 each, there are bound to be people who want to gossip.
2. Not everybody is a douche bag - however, those that are douche bags tend to identify themselves quickly and soon, everybody knows about it. I guess the lesson is, if you fuck up, everybody else will know about it. So try and be a nice person.
3. Class marks are very subjective. I've seen two people work on the same project, but yet, get different marks from the lecturer. Same people, same results, different report, different results. People who participate in class getting lower marks for class participation than those that don't participate. Strange things have happened. I'm tempted to see how many politically incorrect things I can say in class, mainly because I know while I'm not interested in getting the best marks, I won't fail the class because of class participation.

Bored
Maybe it's just me, but I've been feeling bored at the program. Surprisingly with the exams, presentations and my own projects - including poker, I've found a way to actually get bored at here, in one of the most populated cities in the world.
I've been thinking about summer internships, and was wondering which organization and/or industry would allow me to combine my need to
i) create something new (as I have a short attention span)
ii) have a sense of achievement (I'm narcissistic)
iii) indulge in my risk taking (I have little sense)
Suggestions have been to go into sales. Which is pretty ok with me, considering how much I despised sales when I first started work. I've grown to like it quite a lot and have learnt that it doesn't always involve cold calling to sell credit cards.
But the question is, which company? which industry? And why am I doing an MBA if all I'm going to do is .. .sales... maybe at a more senior level I hope :)

You must believe the fairytales I tell you
Love your princes, find your way
Do you guess it if you do?
My fairytales will help you through
You must believe the fairytales I tell you
Fight your dragon, find your way
Do you guess it? Yes it's true
My fairytales will always help you through
